Who can claim the benefits?

BuT is aimed at families with a low income. Your children are entitled to benefits if they:

  • Citizen's allowance (SGB II) or social benefit

  • Social assistance (SGB XII - basic income support in old age or in the event of reduced earning capacity)

  • Housing benefit or child supplement (§ 6b BKGG)

  • Receive benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act

In addition, your child must...

  • attend a general or vocational school (up to the age of 25)

  • do not receive a training allowance (for SGB II/SGB XII-)

If you do not receive any of these benefits, you may still be entitled - for example, if school materials, tutoring or leisure activities cannot be financed from the family budget. In this case, the offices will examine your application individually (so-called triggering of need)
